Sony has just unveiled their upcoming Cyber-shot DSC-TX55, a camera they claim is the world’s thinnest with Full HD video capture and optical image stabilization. It certainly looks slim and neat, but to claim a world record with two such constraints is a bit rich.
There is also support for 3D images, as well as Sony’s simple panoramas and 3D panoramic feature. You can record video at 1920 x 1080 with 25 frames per second, so you should be able to shoot great video clips with the camera.
The lens is of the so-called fold type, which is entirely located inside the camera. It makes the camera thinner but it might not provide the best possible picture quality. If you have a sub-par lens, it’s hard to say whether the 16 megapixel resolution will do you much good.
In terms of storage space, the TX55 uses microSD or Memory Stick Micro storage and not regular SD cards. Sony boasts a weight of 94g. This is extremely small, but Sony does not conform to standards here so 94 grams are without battery and memory card. Suffice to say, that makes the information quite useless.

Big display relative to the camera
Nevertheless, the fact is that Sony rarely makes bad cameras. Although the press release contains a lot of nonsense it does not mean that it is a bad camera. If you like the touch screen and want something that’s both easy on the eyes and wallet-friendly, the TX55 looks like a good choice when it arrives in September.
