Console Typing in this case is in reference to a gaming device. Anyone who owns a gaming console will vouch for the fact that typing from a game controller is an extremely tedious task. This is where Circboard helps out. It would not be an incorrect statement to say that Circboard Console Typing changes the concept of typing. This new system is basically an onscreen keyboard and helps you enter text, so far on the Xbox 360 in particular. To explain this better, we can take the example of an Xbox 360 controller. Here, Circboard makes the use of the joystick and 4 buttons to enter any character. The bumper button is used to insert Space as well as Backspace. In other words you will be using the default buttons to perform the task.

In addition, the left joystick is used to select group of letters and the right analog stick is used for specific letters. You can also make the use of “press” button for this. Along with this you can make the use of the left trigger to type in Caps.
In other words, the Circboard splits the keyboards and makes small blocks out of them so that each of these blocks can perform certain tasks. So, again the concept of typing with this particular form of geekery would change the way we type in a way that applies to the whole process.
Further explained, what Circboard does is that it interfaces with the gaming device such as an Xbox 360 for example, and ends up breaking the alphabet into several blocks which are made up of four letters each. The user then makes the use of the left analog stick to browse through the different groups and then with the help of one the four buttons on the right, they can choose the relevant letter that they want to type.
As mentioned earlier, the trigger on the left controls the turning on and off of the Caps key and the space and backspace function is taken care of by the left and right bumpers. The whole process of using a Circboard for typing on a gaming console seems to be relatively easy and looks like it can be mastered with a bit of practice.
The Circboard layout consists of all the common punctuations along with the letters and this allows the user to have access to any character at even speed, ie with two analog movements and the pressing of one button. While Circboard seems like the way to go when it comes it console typing, it is interesting to note that this system is not available on any games or devices at the moment. Neither does it feature as a default text-input system in the product of any hardware company.
Circboard as a company are looking for investors and funding at the moment and also hoping that by providing demos to developers as well as console makers they can convince them to use the technology in their products. While one waits for that to happen, the tedious exercise of typing in the old traditional method on a console will have to be the way to go in the foreseeable future. Here’s the demo:
