Kinect coming to PC (Officially)

Kinect Sensor with Kinect Adventures!Microsoft Kinect is an accessory for the Xbox 360 that allows you to control custom games using gestures instead of a game pad. The accessory quickly became popular among hackers who came up with a lot of fun uses for the improved camera.

At first Microsoft was somewhat disgruntled that their device was used for any purpose other than gaming and initiated lawsuits against anyone who modified Kinect. Pretty soon though, the company cooled down and seemed to rather enjoy the situation.

In fact, nowadays they like it so much that Kinect gets an SDK, i.e. a development kit for PC this spring. In doing so, it seems that Microsoft estimates that the public’s creativity with Kinect should rather be encouraged, probably because it sells more units.
